Forged in Survival, Refined by Masters Southern Dragon Fist Kung Fu (Lung Ying Kuen) is not a modern sport; it is a profound, battle-tested survival system. Originating from the historic Wha So Toy Temple in Southern China, the art is deeply rooted in the history of the Hakka people. Historically displaced and forced to defend their villages in tight, enclosed environments, the Hakka cultivated a martial art that required no wasted movement—focusing entirely on highly efficient, close-quarter combat.
The Vision of Great Grandmaster Lam Yiu Gwai The system, as we preserve it today, was formalized and brought to prominence in the late 1800s by the legendary Great Grandmaster Lam Yiu Gwai. By fusing his family’s ancestral Hakka martial arts with the esoteric internal teachings of the Shaolin monk Daai Yuk Sim Si, Great Grandmaster Lam created a devastatingly complete system. He cultivated an art that perfectly balances the yielding, elusive fluidity of the fabled Chinese Dragon with explosive, crushing shock-power.
The Essence of the Dragon Lung Ying Kuen does not rely on brute muscular force or high, flashy kicks. Instead, the art is defined by its dynamic, zig-zag footwork and the mastery of Mor Kiao (rubbing bridges). Practitioners condition their forearms to act as both iron shields and heavy hammers, utilizing the four core principles of power: Swallowing, Spitting, Floating, and Sinking. The Dragon yields to incoming force to uproot the opponent, only to strike back with the combined weight of the entire body.
